    Probing Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background from SU(5)×U(1)χSU(5) \times U(1)_{\chi} Strings in Light of NANOGrav 15-Year Data

    A realistic model of SU(5)×U(1)χSU(5) \times U(1)_{\chi}, embedded in SO(10)SO(10) supersymmetric grand unified theory, is investigated for the emergence of a metastable cosmic string network. This network eventually decays via the Schwinger production of monopole-antimonopole pairs, subsequently generating a stochastic gravitational wave background that is compatible with the NANOGrav 15-year data. In order to avoid the monopole problem in the breaking of both SO(10)SO(10) and SU(5)SU(5), a non-minimal Higgs inflation scenario is incorporated. The radiative breaking of the U(1)χU(1)_{\chi} symmetry at a slightly lower scale plays a pivotal role in aligning the string tension parameter with the observable range. The resultant gravitational wave spectrum not only accounts for the signal observed in the most recent pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments but is also accessible to both current and future ground-based and space-based experiments.Comment: 22 pages and5 figures

    Abstract OBJECTIVE: To evaluate early experience with helical hip system in osteoporotic elderly patients with per-trochanteric fractures. METHODS: The retrospective study was conducted at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, and comprised records of patients having low-velocity pertrochanteric fractures who were fixed with spiral blade Dynamic Helical Hip Systemfrom July to December 2014 and were followed up for a minimum of 3 months. Demographic variables and clinical outcomes were noted from the medical records whereas operative details were recorded from the operative note. Radiological variables and outcomes were assessed by viewing appropriate pre-operative, post-operative and follow-up radiographs. RESULTS: Of the 32 patients in the study, 14(44%) were men and 18(56%) were women, with an overall mean age of 77.81±7.04 years and mean body mass index of 25.99±4.13 kg/m2. Of the total, 1(3.13%) patient had implant cut-out, 1(3.13%) had myocardial infarctionand 2(6.2) expired. CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of spiral blade dynamic hip screw manifested favourable results and good clinical and radiological outcomes with low cut-out rates

    A series of some novel ,-bis(disubstituted)isophthalyl-bis(thioureas) compounds with general formula [C6H4 {CONHCSNHR}2], where R = 2-ClC6H4S (L1), 3,5-(Cl)2C6H3 (L2), 2,4-(Cl)2C6H3 (L3), 2,5-(Cl)2C6H3 (L4), and 2-NH2C6H4 (L5), and their Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes (C1–C10) have been synthesized. These compounds (L1–L5) and their metal(II) complexes (C1–C10) have been characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy, magnetic moments, and electronic spectral measurements. The ligands are coordinated to metal atom in a bidentate pattern producing a neutral complex of the type [ML]2. These compounds (L1–L5) and their metal(II) complexes (C1–C10) were also screened for their antibacterial and cytotoxic activities

    Recurrent Cervical Neurofibrosarcoma: A Rare Case of Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor of Head and Neck Region

    Neurofibrosarcoma is a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). The cervical location of the neurofibrosarcoma is very rare and is less than 1% in the literature. MPNSTs are often associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).  We are presenting a case report of 31 years old female, with huge recurrent cervical neurofibrosarcoma on the right side of the neck.  To date, surgical excision followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy is the treatment of choice which requires a multidisciplinary approach. We excised the above-mentioned cervical neurofibrosarcoma in a piecemeal fashion and discharged the patient on follow-up with the oncology department

    Frequency, Etiology and Leading Causes of Pre-Senile Cataract: A Descriptive Study

    Background: Cataract is generally caused due to physical aging, but in some cases, there are chances that it may develop in early ages (Pre-senile cataract). Pre-senile cataract is believed not to be primary in nature and some underlying ocular/systemic/environmental factor is causing the lens opacification at an early age. This study aim was to determine frequency and risk factors of pre-senile cataract in our populationMethods: this observational study at Outdoor Patient - Eye in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi (BBH), for the period from December 2017 to June 2018. Cataract was diagnosed on slit lamp examination. Detail history, Ocular and systemic examination was done for all pre-senile cataract cases. Laboratory/radiological investigations were performed when and where required. Using the Excel spreadsheet, Statistical analysis of descriptive data was carried out.Results: A total of 11448 patients were examined, whereby cataract was found in 849 (7.41%) patients. Out of these 849, 165 (19.43%) cases were pre-senile cataract. Pre-senile cataract was most seen in age group 30-49 86 (52.13%) and among women 93 (56.36%). The identified causes were idiopathic 55 (33.3%), diabetes 45(27.3%) and Steroids and other drugs related 33 (20.0%). posterior sub-capsular cataract is 60(36.36%) was most identified type in the study among pre-senile cataract
